Notes:The Ladysmith Carnegie library was the last library in this area set up under a Carnegie grant according to W.E. Thompson, who was instrumental in seeing that Ladysmith got a free library. Before the new building was put up, the library opened on Nov. 3, 1906 in a small frame building on West Second Street, and it contained only a few magazines and second-hand books. Excavation was begun for the basement of the new Carnegie library in August, 1907. 1908
